The Influencer
A prediction card is given to a spectator to keep in their pocket. They shuffle the deck and name a number. You immediately begin dealing the cards, one at a time, face-up. The card at the spectator's chosen number perfectly matches the prediction card that has been in their pocket from the beginning! The best part is, they can change their number WHILST THE CARDS ARE BEING DEALT! They can even randomly call STOP at any point. No matter what decisions they make, the card will always be at their number or wherever they stop.

Memory Call, or Memo Recall, is the perfect, impromptu mentalism effect for the next time someone asks, "Can I film you do something?" They hit record, and you explain that you will use a psychological technique to influence them to choose a certain card from the deck. The technique then works, but did they notice the subliminal message? Of course not. Luckily, it's on video! They play the video of your performance back and make a startling discovery as they hear you clearly giving secret instructions to their subconscious to choose the card that they did!

The Influencer offers a few strong effects within this manuscript. Once again, Lewis offers several routines that are strong enough for the working performer, yet easy enough for the beginner. Within this offering, he speaks on 3 different routines, two of which he uses a forcing technique that has been used for years by card magicians. The other technique is a long held and utilized secret of the modern mind reader using a classical idea and handling similar to the original gimmick.
The first effect is basically a card at any number or a stop effect that has a great presentation, as well as an easy handling. The second effect, Le Secret Rouge, is a very nice handling and routine for influence revolving around influencing someone to select on item from several items written on the back of a business card. While the last routine shows how individuals can be psychologically influenced based on language that is later replayed to show how the influence was created.

Lewis Leval is a creative mentalist. In this release of three routines, his centerpiece is "The Influencer" which is a novel ACAAN using an ungimmicked deck and a clever sleight that's done when there is no heat on your hands. In other words, the dirty work is done way up front, long before you turn over the card in the deck at the number picked by the spectator. Don't worry, the sleight is simple. In fact, watching Lewis perform it, I had a fairly good idea how it worked, but your spectators won't. They will have no idea because as Darwin Ortiz says in Designing Miracles, there's backward time displacement. This is an easy, excellent method, one that you'll be doing fairly quickly.
Routine two uses a "swami-less swami gimmick." It too is quite ingenious but not for all performers. I might use it.
Lastly, there is a pseudo-psychological force of a card using The Influencer method, one that you can encourage people to video for playback later to see your influence over their selection. It's not really a new effect, just a variation on the first one. It's cool.

So if I'm so high on The Influencer, why only four stars? Simple answer: price. I get that this material is geared to the professional, and the price is to keep amateurs away. But I think that it's still a bit high.
